Introducing ''Corinthian'': A Revolutionary Composite Visor for Humanitarian Demining

Cato Composite is proud to announce the successful development of the “Corinthian” Composite Visor, designed in collaboration with our  client, ROFI AS. This innovative visor, primarily composed of recycled aramid, marks a significant advancement in protective headgear technology, offering enhanced safety while being lighter than traditional options.

Funded by Innovation Norway, the project is part of NPA’s initiative to create "Next Generation Personal Protective Equipment" for humanitarian demining.

The Corinthian Visor is set to be recognized as the international gold standard for PPE by the GICHD and will be featured in their PPE Catalogue.

Key Innovations of the “Corinthian” Visor

The “Corinthian” Visor has been engineered to address the evolving needs of demining professionals. Key features include:

- Lightweight Design: By integrating aramid composites, the visor is lighter than existing polycarbonate options currently available, allowing for improved comfort during extended wear.
- Enhanced Protection: The visor features a unique double-layered structure. The outer layer is made from a brittle, UV-resistant, and scratch-resistant transparent plastic, designed to shatter upon impact, thereby dissipating energy and protecting the underlying standard 5mm polycarbonate inner layer.

- Sustainable Material: With a commitment to sustainability, the majority of the visor is constructed from recycled aramid, showcasing Cato Composite’s dedication to environmentally responsible manufacturing practices.

- Increased Durability: To enhance protection against UV exposure and moisture, the inner aramid components are lined with nylon, ensuring the visor remains reliable and resilient in various conditions.

Together Towards Sustainability: The Cato and ROFI Partnership

At the heart of our recent success with the “Corinthian” Visor lies not just an innovative product, but the strong relationship Cato built with ROFI AS. By working closely together, Cato was able to understand their needs and, through a combination of creativity and technical expertise, deliver a protective visor that is not only lighter and stronger but also more sustainable.

Cato’s commitment to sustainability led to the use of recycled aramid in the “Corinthian” Visor, demonstrating how innovation and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. This approach didn’t stop at technical improvements; by focusing on finding the most sustainable production methods, Cato ensured that ROFI received a product aligning with their long-term goals. This successful partnership and innovative thinking have solidified the visor's recognition as a gold standard for protective equipment in the field.
